Hooray! Since getting my ipod/Nike + thing I have run 620 miles and achieved BLUE LEVEL STATUS. The Nike + thing hooks up to my ipod and measures my runs. Then when you hook your ipod up to the computer it sends the info to a website that keeps track of everything. The first levels are kind of small but this last green level took quite a while. It’s kind of like a video game except you just run. I guess that’s not really like a video game. ANYWAYS only 929 miles until the next level!
Well I have no photographic proof of the 10K we ran this weekend. But let me tell you my knees are proof enough for me. This was the first race I ran with someone else (Josh and I have done races together, but Lord knows he is not back in the 10 min mile group with me) and it was definitely a challenge, but great. My buddy Leigh (the marathoner) told me she ran a 10 min mile and that we’d be good pacers for each other, and that her foot was hurt so she might even need to walk. Liar, she kept us at a 9 min mile pace for about as long as I could take it and then still kept us under 10 after that. The last little bit was kind of brutal but we did it! Josh of course had been done for like 10 minutes already.
And in honor of my health this weekend today I am making Kale Chips. You basically bake lettuce. It’s not potato chips, but somehow it’s still very very good. Use this recipe. I put garlic salt, onion powder and cayenne pepper on mine:
So last year for our anniversary I got an ipod with the Nike + running deal and we trained for dam to dam (a 20K from one dam to another in Des Moines). One of the great things about the Nike + deal is that if you hook it up to your computer it keeps track of all of your runs and mileage. In the last year I have run over 478 miles (I’ve run w/out my ipod and sometimes it does screw up, but that’s what I’ve logged). That’s like running from my college (in Greencastle, IN) to my parent’s home in Des Moines plus some! So we’ve started to train for this year’s dam to dam (although we might not be able to actually be there) and this weekend we’re doing a 10K in Millennium Park. Now I’m not really a runner, but my goals for this year are to run more races and more miles. Now that it’s in writing you know it’s serious, here’s to the next 478 miles!
I have a friend who has mentioned various times that Ironic by Alanis Morissette is not in fact talk about irony. I think that’s ironic.
Also ironic (which is what made me think of that in the first place) is that I am simutaneously research fudge recipes and half marathon training schedules.
First off I’ve never seen the movie How Stella Got Her Groove Back, or whatever it is so if it’s inappropriate get your mind out of the gutter, I’m going to talk about running.
So one time I ran this race, like 12.2 miles. That’s a long way and involves a lot of training. That was in May. I’m pretty sure I haven’t had a good run since. It’s been such a bummer because when you get to a place where running isn’t horrible and painful and exhausting, it’s pretty awesome. Well I’ve kept up running and it’s basically been horrible and painful and exhausting for too long. At first I thought I was out of shape or something, but it seems impossible when you’re running at least 3 miles 4 times a week. Well I didn’t want to jinx it, but the other day I went running, and it was good! Then I ran to pottery and back and it was still good! I’m strangely very excited. I have my RUNNING groove back.
Today I official crossed the 300 mark on my nike + thingy. I got it for my anniversary in April so it’s been about 4-5 months. Considering I’m not really a runner this is a pretty big accomplishment; perfectly timed a day before my quarter of a century birthday.
